Student answer (Band 6.0)

Personally I think that there are different reasons why businesses choice to adopte this kind of advertising strategy and that are due to various factors. First of all there is the savage competition between similar brands: companies are constantly looking for new strategy to get a bigger slice of constumers and to optain greater earnings.

While brands are trying to highlights differences and changes in their products, the reality is that these are all at the same level of progress and there are not significant advantages by choosing one instead of another: their aim is to convince people to feel differences that, often, are not even real. This aspect is closely link with the second reason that lead this phenomenon that is the need of the people to own the best objects that markets could offer.

Moreover people are lead to belive that even a small improvement in a technological field, for example, could be able to radically change their life even if, as in reality appens, it is just an useless expence influenced by their emotions.

Personally I belive that this development has substancial negative consequences: although some times businneses are really bringing something new or innovative on the market, in the majority of the cases are just trying to convince and persuade people to spend their money, sometimes more than they can afford.

Furthermore, this strategy has a huge impact on the environment because lead the production of new numerous objects with short life expectance.

In conclusion I belive that this kind of advertising campaign is more harmfull than we belive and quite unethical but, unfortunately, destined to last for long.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the emphasis on 'newness' and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention competition and consumer psychology, the points could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The argument regarding environmental impact is a strong point, but it is introduced late and could have been expanded to better support your overall stance. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this phenomenon') is always precise to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'savage competition', 'innovative', and 'unethical'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'adopte', 'constumers', 'optain', 'belive', 'appens', 'expence', and 'harmfull'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'businesses choice to adopte', 'reasons that lead this phenomenon', and 'people are lead to belive'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Increasing your control over complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly improve your score.
