Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the explanation for why businesses use this strategy (R&D and competition) is restated in the second and third paragraphs without significant expansion. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples or explore the potential downsides of this marketing strategy (e.g., consumerism or planned obsolescence) to create a more balanced and sophisticated argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For example, the phrase 'sells as well as profits' is used in both the introduction and the conclusion, which limits the variety of your linking. Improving the range of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'contemporary', 'competitive advantages', and 'targeted audience'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'At the recent days' (should be 'In recent times'), 'compete the in the market' (should be 'compete in the market'), and 'sells' used as a noun (should be 'sales'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'it help to increase' (should be 'it helps') and 'the businesses' (often used unnecessarily). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in comma placement. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that articles are used correctly in general statements.
