Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the explanation of 'market gap' and 'psychology' is clear, but the supporting arguments lack specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear throughout, but the reasoning remains at a general level. To reach a higher band, you should provide concrete examples, such as the smartphone industry or fashion trends, to illustrate how these marketing strategies function in reality.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Therefore' and 'In this way' are used frequently, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly linked would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'new', and 'best'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'sold-out in the market' (instead of 'sold') and 'found of trying' (instead of 'fond of'). While the meaning is always clear, the lack of less common lexical items and the presence of word-choice errors limit the score. Using more precise terminology related to marketing and consumer behavior would significantly improve your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently struggle with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'businesses emphasizes', 'businesses tries') and pluralization (e.g., 'New developments changes'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences and inconsistent spacing. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
