Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the prompt, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth. For instance, the explanation of why businesses emphasize 'newness' is vague, and the discussion regarding whether this is a positive or negative development is superficial. The essay lacks a clear, consistent position, and the supporting examples, such as the mention of Deakin University, are not integrated effectively to support the argument. To improve, you must expand your points with detailed explanations and relevant examples to meet the length requirement and fully explore the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moving on further', they often feel mechanical or are used incorrectly. The connection between sentences is frequently weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logic. For example, the transition between the discussion of consumer bases and the mention of a university survey is abrupt. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary flow to support a coherent argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear central theme would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'new products', 'advertising', and 'positive developments' throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common or sophisticated vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Some word choices are awkward, such as 'by that only we came to know', which is not idiomatic. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary and collocations, such as 'consumer behavior', 'market saturation', or 'technological advancement', and ensure that your word choices are precise and natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, the sentence 'To clarify it more precisely, by a wider consumer base, which provides a more accurate record...' is a sentence fragment and lacks a clear subject-verb relationship. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence construction, such as the incomplete sentence in the second paragraph. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound. Proofreading for subject-verb agreement and proper clause usage will help reduce these errors.
