Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. The explanation for why companies focus on newness is somewhat repetitive, focusing primarily on sales without exploring broader marketing strategies or consumer psychology. The discussion on whether it is positive is also underdeveloped, relying on vague examples like car features. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more specific, well-supported arguments and ensure the position is clearly maintained throughout the essay rather than just stated in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'Moving further' and 'To explain it further'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'brands' and 'they' is confusing. While there is an attempt at logical sequencing, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive structure of the sentences make the flow feel somewhat forced and simplistic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'products', 'companies', and 'different'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'multifarious reason' (should be plural), 'will not be buy' (grammatical error affecting meaning), and 'older once' (should be 'ones'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('companies emphasis', 'there are multifarious reason'), incorrect verb forms ('will not be buy'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'the things which can make cars of companies different are their features which makes people to buy' is a run-on sentence with awkward syntax. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex structures.
