Student answer (Band 5.5)

Businesses usually advertise about their product with some new way. I think it as a positive development as it has many advantages.

Nowadays, each advertisement has something new in order to attract the customers towards it. It has made the development and innovation more advance due to the competition faced by the companies in the market and as to maintain their level in market they have to make something new in their product which comforts and satisfies the costumer to purchase it. For example, apple company in terms of phone brings new model each year but still it is purchased by large majority of population due to something new in their products.

Sometimes company offers a new-advance product in very cheap price as to make the customers attract towards it, which benefits both the customers as well as the company as costumer get the product at very cheap price and companies make huge profit by selling large quantity of product. for example coca-cola started to sell its drink at very cheap price and now it is one of the top-most biggest company in the world to grow and develop in very short period of time.

In conclusion, I believe this is a positive development because it encourage innovation and provides consumers with improved products and greater choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasize newness and whether this is positive or negative. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. The ideas are presented but remain somewhat superficial; for instance, the explanation of why companies innovate could be expanded with more nuanced analysis regarding consumer psychology or market saturation. Because the response is 33 words short, it fails to fully develop the points, resulting in a lower score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion'. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, and the logical flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by simplistic sentence structures. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure lacks the sophisticated linking required for higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'new', 'cheap', and 'good'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'new-advance product' or 'top-most biggest company'. While the meaning is generally clear, the student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations effectively. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range is limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'advertise about their product with some new way' (preposition/phrasing error), 'it encourage innovation' (subject-verb agreement), and 'in very cheap price' (preposition error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and more varied sentence construction to improve.
