Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this contemporary society organisations are prioritising their products in various ways. This has become a heated topic. Why they are doing this in addition the advantages and disadvantages will be discussed in this essay.

There are several reasons why they are highlighting their products. First of all they are trying to grab then attention of individuals by playing a play or creating suspense in their ads. When individuals are interested in their ad they are half way close to their purpose. Their main purpose of doing this is to sell their products in order to generate revenue. They are sugarcoating their words to create a special bond with buyers that their product is great in addition buying this will help you in such way that other product can not. They present their product in such a way that an individual get fascinated. Several product just need a boost and it assists both the companies and the buyer however in several cases this is only great for companies not individuals such as a major disadvantage of this is several products that are not useful and it is just a piece of scrap but because of the marketing it can be sold very easily. This is against the morals and ethics of business.

In my perspective it depend on the circumstances when a product that can be purchased physically should be purchased in store rather than putting your precious time and money on risk however if the product is only available online then individuals should check the reviews

then place an order. in conclusion it is great way for business and positive for them

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth and clear structure. While you identify why businesses emphasize 'newness' (to generate revenue and attract attention), the discussion on whether this is positive or negative is underdeveloped. You mention that it can be a 'major disadvantage' when products are useless, but the argument lacks specific examples or a clear, sustained position. The conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively summarize your stance. To improve, ensure each body paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the prompt and provides concrete evidence or logical reasoning to support your claims, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is inconsistent; the second paragraph is overly long and covers multiple ideas, while the third is very brief. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as 'in addition' used as a sentence starter without proper punctuation. The transition between the reasons for advertising and the evaluation of its impact is abrupt. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employ a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') to guide the reader through your arguments more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally functional but limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'grab the attention', 'sugarcoating their words', and 'piece of scrap' are informal and lack the precision required for an academic essay. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or collocations. Some word choices are awkward, such as 'playing a play' instead of 'creating a narrative' or 'using a strategy'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more academic vocabulary and precise collocations that fit the formal tone of an IELTS task 2 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it depend on the circumstances'), missing articles, and run-on sentences. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly the lack of commas after introductory phrases and between independent clauses. The sentence structures are mostly simple; there is a lack of complex sentence forms, which limits your ability to express nuanced ideas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring proper subject-verb agreement, and using punctuation to separate distinct thoughts clearly.
