Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion—the arguments are underdeveloped. The second body paragraph is incomplete, ending abruptly, which prevents a full exploration of your position. To improve, ensure you provide fully realized arguments with clear examples for each point. The current length and the unfinished nature of the conclusion and second body paragraph mean the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to organize ideas. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is fragmented and lacks a clear concluding thought. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'wasting them', where the antecedent is ambiguous. To improve, focus on ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas flow logically to a complete conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'adverting' instead of 'advertising', 'sealing' instead of 'selling', and 'economic damages of customer' which is unnatural. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'brand promoter' and 'celebrities', but the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on basic, sometimes misused, terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'present their customer in different aways' (should be 'ways'), 'unusual buying' (should be 'impulse buying'), and 'ingredients are use for made this product' (should be 'used to make'). There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but the accuracy is low. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms, and basic sentence construction before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
