Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the focus on 'newness' and offering an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding competition and consumer boredom are relevant but remain superficial. The conclusion introduces irrelevant points about 'eco-friendly' and 'environment safety' which were not discussed in the body paragraphs, indicating a lack of focus. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence is repetitive and lacks depth, preventing the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', 'Conversely'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, such as starting a paragraph with 'Conversely' when the content does not present a contrasting argument. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, making the text difficult to follow at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'advertise their product' and 'new in some way' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There are instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'rate of consumers' instead of 'consumer base' or 'customer numbers', and 'afterword' used incorrectly for 'afterwards'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely, and the reliance on simple, functional language limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('businesses todays advertise', 'their are some merits'), article usage, and sentence structure. Complex sentence attempts are rare and often contain errors, such as 'the supportive reason shall be discuss in upcoming paragraph'. Simple sentences are the primary structure, but even these are frequently marred by errors in tense and word order. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read.
