Student answer (Band 5.0)

Advertisement is one of the modern and most common ways of making your products known to consumers so as to sell at a faster pace.

some individuals believe that products are usually bought quicker when the performance is overrated and exaggerated but this is usually a myth as it does not occur to everyone.

From the business point of view, business men and women believe that customers always want to try new products and merchandise and by giving an impression of selling new products, the customers will gladly purchase there by improving the business .

This has brought various developments in different schools of thought.

For the business to thrive, it does not take the need to necessarily imply that the merchandise is new instead, letting your customers be aware of how good and reliable your merchandise is can greatly improve your business .

Most businesses have long term effects especially if the truth is hidden. For instance, you inform your customers of your new cosmetics and turns out to have a negative effect on the skin, this can negatively affect one’s business.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 181 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay touches upon why businesses emphasize 'newness' and offers a brief opinion on the development, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples. The response is too brief to fully address all parts of the prompt, resulting in a fragmented discussion that does not explore the implications of the topic in the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. Paragraphing is inconsistent, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'From the business point of view', the transitions between sentences are often abrupt or illogical. The lack of a clear introduction and conclusion makes the overall flow difficult to follow. To improve, you should organize your essay into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct main ideas, and a concluding summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally functional but limited. You rely on basic terms like 'business men and women' and 'merchandise', which are repetitive. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'sell at a faster pace' instead of 'increase sales' or 'accelerate sales'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate precision or flexibility. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'turns out to have a negative effect' lacks a clear subject, and 'purchase there by improving' is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in several places. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band level.
