Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the example of mobile phones is relevant, the explanation regarding 'technological advancements' and the impact of advertising is occasionally repetitive and lacks depth. The argument regarding the negative aspects is a bit brief compared to the positive side. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more specific reasoning rather than listing general observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although some sentences within paragraphs are loosely connected, which occasionally disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the argument, which helps the reader follow the writer's train of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovation', 'competitive advantage', and 'unnecessary consumption'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or collocation errors, such as 'advertising has supported for businesses to improved' and 'influenced by people' instead of 'influenced people'. Some spelling errors, such as 'varaity' and 'cheack', also occur. A wider range of precise vocabulary would be needed to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction, such as 'these platforms allow encourage to people have never used before' and 'there more wide varaity'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
