Student answer (Band 5.5)

In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasis that their products are new in some way. I am strongly agree with this statement because it was a great method to selling their products in a large number. I think that it a positive development for nation and businessmen.

To commence with, one of the main reason is that businesses need to stand out from competitors in a highly competitive markets. To clear it, by refining their products they can attract consumers more towards their products and this leads to increase in their sailing products and also benefits for their company growth. For instance, smart phones by apple company is highly demanded because of its advanced features such as good quality of camera, more efficient software system and longer battery life, which can be significantly improves users' daily experience. Hence, by modification of products and improved their system it is good way of sailing products globally.

On the other hand, advertisement of products is also plays a vital role in a company. Advertisement had a great influence on people before purchasing products either online or offline. Advanced advertisement will attract the people towards them, these can be done by only high profile company not done by local business. However, people will more attract on excellent and advanced products. For instance, some people buy products because it was promoted by their favourite celebrity or sports person without comparing their reviews and respond of these products. Hence, these type of thinking will affect the local businessmen because they are sailing good products with low price as compared to other products.

Overall, I believe this is mainly a positive development. Promoting innovative products can stimulate market competition, encourage technological progress, and provide consumers with more choices and higher-quality products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a relevant example regarding Apple, the second paragraph is less focused, drifting into a discussion about celebrity endorsements and local businesses that is only tangentially related to the core topic of product innovation. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point made directly supports the argument regarding the 'newness' of products rather than general advertising strategies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'For instance', and 'On the other hand' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'To clear it' or 'these type of thinking'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where the connection between celebrity endorsements and the 'newness' of products is not explicitly bridged. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the second paragraph could be more cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovative', 'technological progress', and 'market competition'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'sailing products' (instead of 'selling'), 'highly demanded' (instead of 'in high demand'), and 'people will more attract on' (instead of 'people will be more attracted to'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'I am strongly agree', 'advertisement... is also plays', 'it was a great method to selling'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that occasionally require the reader to re-read for clarity. The range of structures is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but the frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
