Student answer (Band 5.0)
Now a days there is very competition in businesses because every one think about them. now a days the people only want the thing which is different from other and they can pay more money for the thing which is different from other. on the other hand the main reasons are to attract attention and to create sense of progress for example every year the new iphone and new galaxy release by the company with some upgrades even if the core is similar but every one sell the old one and buy the new one to take attention from people and want them to look different from other people.
The the positive development in my point of view is that companies invest in R&D to actually make the product better this lead to faster phones safe cars and good medicine. on the other hand new products create job and keep industry move for longer.
The negative thing I think is encourages consumerism and waste people threw away the old products just because the new thing is launched in the market which can be similar to the old one .and the most negative thing I think is pressure on the people is constant ads for new thing which make the people think that there old product in not good .
In conclusion, businesses emphasize newness to boost sale and innovation . However , because if often promotes unnecessary consumption and misleading claims, I Think this is negative trend at all .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is limited. While you mention R&D and consumerism, the arguments are brief and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'faster phones' is a good start but needs more elaboration to fully support your position. The response is quite short, and the ideas are presented in a somewhat repetitive manner. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear topic sentence followed by detailed supporting evidence or examples to fully explore the implications of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by poor sentence structure and a lack of cohesive devices. You use 'on the other hand' and 'in conclusion' to signal shifts, but these are sometimes used incorrectly or repetitively. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs feels disjointed. For example, the transition between the discussion of iPhone releases and the impact on the industry is abrupt. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., using 'this trend' or 'such practices') would help connect your ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple words like 'thing', 'good', and 'new'. There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'very competition' instead of 'intense competition' and 'keep industry move' instead of 'keep the industry moving'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'R&D', 'consumerism', and 'innovation', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('every one think', 'companies invest... this lead to'), article usage ('the new iphone', 'the most negative thing'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, which makes the text difficult to follow. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular capitalization and spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic grammatical accuracy is essential.
