Student answer (Band 5.5)

in this contemporary society advertising of products and services becomes an essential part to represents a business in a unique way that might be a reason for a customer attraction. whenever a business introduce something new into market it must be significant to advertise the product to force a new competition for the existing market products. it also proves very helpful to recognise the product among people because people also buy the product which they ever seen on some commercial adds or seen them advertised by their favourite social media actor or by other popular content creator

according to my experience it is very beneficial to advertise a business and on a serious note i feel no shame on saying that nowadays a business only runs when it is advertised in a genius way by experienced team of marketers for selling products. a business with no advertising never got success because a business only runs when your product are more likely and well known among stakeholders. although there are many useful techniques which are often used by different marketers when they are going to localise their product among buyers so they sent their products to different tiktokers and some personalities which are very famous among peoples these personalities include actors, comedians and some other rising stars of social media. All they do for best sale of their business and also to introduce their work on national and international level.

there is a clean and shiny example of a mobile phone company who sell different kind of technology products including smart phone we all are well recognised by the name of this company. that company introduce their name in market in such a decent way that it's impossible for us to forget their name in technology you all know which company is discussed by me at that point whenever we hear about some technology a name clicks in our mind named as APPLE. we all know this brand because of the techniques used by marketers to advertised the product and also we all know this only we see it in the hands of our favourite actors so the company succeed in their strategy and create a myth that only wealthy persons buy there products that also increase the crave in middle class peoples of buying apple products to prove that they are rich enough.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasize 'newness' and whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is uneven. The explanation for why companies focus on newness is clear, but the discussion regarding whether this is a positive or negative development is underdeveloped. The student mentions that it is 'beneficial' but fails to provide a balanced view or a clear, sustained argument. The example of Apple is relevant but becomes slightly tangential as it focuses more on brand perception than the specific concept of 'newness' in advertising. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more nuanced arguments regarding the impact of this trend on consumers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are frequently missing or mechanical, such as the abrupt shift from the general discussion to the Apple example. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the use of linking words is limited, which makes the flow of the argument feel disjointed. While the paragraphing is present, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader smoothly through the argument. Improving the use of transition signals like 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in contrast' would significantly improve the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic or repetitive phrasing, such as 'business only runs' and 'well known.' Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'genius way' (likely meaning 'ingenious') and 'crave' (used as a noun where 'desire' or 'craving' would be more appropriate). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated collocations and the presence of minor errors in word choice limit the score. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'whenever a business introduce'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'which they ever seen'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a lack of capitalization and run-on sentences that make the text difficult to follow. While the student attempts complex structures, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundary control and basic grammatical accuracy is essential for improvement.
