Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the focus on 'newness' and providing an opinion. However, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full development of the argument. The word count is below the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the ability to fully extend and support ideas. While the position is clear, the lack of a conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final paragraph mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored and that the essay reaches the required length with a clear, finished conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the flow and cohesion of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Therefore' and 'In returns' (which is an error for 'In return'), but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels underdeveloped due to the incomplete nature of the text. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete structure that leads logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'In returns, it creates their presence in market prominent' and 'raises the newness of their product'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is a reliance on basic terms. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'grab market attention', consider 'capture market share' or 'generate consumer interest'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'many new business are emerging' (should be plural 'businesses') and 'it show product as a self-explanatory' (should be 'it shows the product'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a major issue. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
