Student answer (Band 6.0)
Advertisements are usually meant to promote businesses. Nowadays, companies emphasise a new or an advanced version of their products their advertisements. I agree that it is a positive development because it may give a reason for people to purchase it and could also develop the companies' marketing strategy.
To begin with, there are many products in the market and most of the people wish to buy something new or unique. When businesses mention what is new with their product during advertisements, it often gives the society a reason to buy it. By mentioning something new about a certain product, it may grab attention of the listener. If the product seems to be genuine then people would purchase it. For example, assuming that there is a chocolate being advertised for years, people may lose interest in it. However, when the same chocolate is modified, produced in more flavors, and shapes, then it can grab attention of the listener. This will help increase the sales of the chocolate of that specific company.
Additionally, a considerable number of people watch televisions or read newspapers. Many advertisements will be displayed or printed on them. The only way to stand out from multiple advertisements could be by adding something new to a company's product. When a company manages to grab required attention, the sales of that certain product increases. This usually possible if a product is new in some way to the society. As a result, a company's revenue may increase and it will build their marketing strategy. For instance, chargers usually charge only one device. Whereas, when the same charger is upgraded to charge multiple devices at once, more people would be interested in purchasing it. By advertising this, the company will stand out from other similar products.
Therefore, i believe that companies can have a positive development by mentioning what is new with their product in their advertisements.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. Ideas are relevant, such as the need to grab consumer attention and the role of innovation in marketing strategy. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the points about 'grabbing attention' and 'increasing sales' are restated in both body paragraphs without significant new depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the implications of this trend more thoroughly, perhaps by discussing the potential downside of consumerism or the pressure on companies to innovate constantly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main reasons. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'This usually possible if' in the second paragraph is missing a verb, which disrupts the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and natural to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'marketing strategy', 'revenue', and 'upgraded'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler terms like 'new', 'buy', and 'grab attention'. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'give the society a reason' (better: 'give consumers a reason') and 'build their marketing strategy' (better: 'enhance their marketing strategy'). To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms and academic collocations to convey your points with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, 'advertisements are usually meant to promote businesses' is correct, but 'This usually possible if' is missing the verb 'is'. There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'assuming that there is a chocolate being advertised' (should be 'a type of chocolate') and 'watch televisions' (usually 'watch television'). Despite these errors, the complexity of the sentences is sufficient to demonstrate a reasonable level of control, and communication is rarely impeded.
