Student answer (Band 5.5)

These days, companies and businesses are putting efforts to differentiate their product by doing advertisements. The reason behind this is that they want to provide more information about their product about their launch. From my perspective, it is completely a positive development.

One compelling reason is to provide adequate knowledge about a specific product. To clarify, advertisements directly hit in the mind of the individual and if in repetition, they come across such advertising then there are chance that the message get conveyed to them. In addition, people have different opinions and choices and by advertising the seller can explain the qualities of the commodity. For example, in mobile phones iphone is taking the largest share in the market and this is due to the strategies the manufacturer have used in the publicity of the phone and the information they have provided to the consumers.

On the other hand, it beneficial for the companies also because it will help them directly in boosting their sales. This is to say that advertisements plays a crucial role in increasing sales of a product. Due to proper marketing , the buyers will be curious for purchasing the thing which has been advertised. Moreover, owing to increase in the sales their profits will initially go high. What i mean, the will assist the business unit to earn more profit in the future.

In conclusion, i reaffirm that advertising is an essential part of the business which ultimately provides adequate knowledge to the consumer. Furthermore, it will also aid the seller by increasing sales which will give high return for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for emphasizing 'newness' and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention that companies want to provide information and boost sales, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis regarding the 'newness' aspect specifically. For instance, you discuss advertising in general rather than focusing on why businesses specifically highlight that products are 'new'. To reach a higher band, you should explore the psychological impact of novelty on consumers or the competitive nature of modern markets in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'What i mean, the will assist the business unit', where the pronoun usage is awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'compelling reason', 'commodity', and 'reaffirm'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'advertisements directly hit in the mind' (should be 'impact the consumer's mind') and 'the buyers will be curious for purchasing' (should be 'curious about purchasing'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more academic collocations and avoiding informal phrasing will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'advertisements plays', 'the manufacturer have used') and missing articles or incorrect word forms (e.g., 'it beneficial for the companies'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of lowercase 'i' and missing commas. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
