Student answer (Band 6.0)
Businesses at present normally promote that their products are new in some way in order to differentiate it from other competitors and I firmly believe it is a positive development, particularly because it will attract more consumers.
A growing number of consumers gets interested in products that says it has something new in it, because people naturally are very inclined to new trends in terms of their daily consumption. For example, makeup brands level some of their ingredients as new or unique even though there's not much of a difference in the results but because they market as such, consumers buy them out of curiosity and interest. Therefore, when businesses prepare advertising strategy, they try to focus on more engaging and unique way of promoting their products to differentiate it from other competitors so that a large number of customer can be pulled and one of the ways to do so is by marketing the products as new in some way.
It is largely a positive development from the business perspective because they attract more customers which increases their revenue. With all the increasing number of businesses today, market penetration is quite difficult but through this method, entry barrier reduces significantly. These kinds of marketing strategies initially create buzz among the buyer and influence the sales to up. As more and more customers buy them out of curiosity, word of mouth spreads and the particular business succeeds in getting attention. Even though the actual success depends on the products good services, the initial attention is what most businesses target nowadays to reach to the growth stage. For instance, many businesses start off by rigorous marketing campaigns by levelling their services/products as unique that others' and become familiar among market segments, gradually improving their products through the process.
In conclusion, in order to promote products in a unique way, businesses emphasis that their products are different than others to gain more attention from customers, which i consider as a positive development because businesses get more buyers and thus increase their revenue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of market penetration and consumer curiosity. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the argument that 'newness' attracts customers is restated in each paragraph without adding significant depth or nuance. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the potential negative aspects of this trend—such as consumer deception or environmental waste—to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion, even if you ultimately maintain your positive stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Therefore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly forced. For example, the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; in the second paragraph, 'it' is used to refer to 'products' (plural), which creates a slight lack of agreement. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, though the flow could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'market penetration', 'entry barrier', and 'rigorous marketing campaigns'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'levelling their services' (likely meant 'labeling') and 'influence the sales to up' (should be 'increase sales'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'products that says', 'number of consumers gets') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the actual success depends on the products good services'. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these minor errors is noticeable. To improve, proofread specifically for subject-verb agreement and ensure that plural nouns are consistently matched with plural verbs and pronouns.
