Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is truly evident the most of the business companies nowadays about their product claim that their products are new in some aspects. Since they always try to make their product look and feel better in many ways.

To commence with it, there is ample of reasons to claim them correspondingly cosmetics companies always try to experiment their products and make their products better than the old one. Secondly, they try to raise their sales so they emphasise it to attract the buyer to purchase their products. Sometime they try to improve it and actually did it so they advertise it for people to know about their new things.

Additional to it, it is partial development like if they improve their things and make it good in many ways then old and then they gave advertisement about it then it is evident that it is positive development since they are not making things and lying about their products but if they just make it without concerning about their product and just gave ad to attract the people then it is negative development since they are breaking the trust of the many people and it is kind of spam to customers who purchase it by believing their advertisements.

To conclude it, it is evident that it is important for companies to advertise their product so the people can know in addition to this, it is a positive and negative development in their own ways since some companies really try to improve it but some just shot a fire in air.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasize 'newness' and whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided, such as 'raising sales' and 'improving products,' are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with concrete examples. The discussion on whether it is positive or negative is somewhat simplistic, relying on a binary 'truth vs. lying' argument without considering broader economic or consumer behavior implications. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific, real-world examples rather than general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To commence with it' and 'Additional to it.' The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly within the third paragraph, where the argument shifts abruptly between positive and negative aspects. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the subject of certain sentences. Improving the variety and precision of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'make their product look and feel better' and 'make their products better than the old one.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'shot a fire in air,' which is not a standard English idiom. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations that accurately convey your meaning, rather than relying on simple, repetitive structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the most of the business companies... claim'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'experiment their products'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'there is ample of reasons'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack necessary commas or conjunctions. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundary errors.
