Student answer (Band 6.0)
Without any iota of doubt, advertising is important to make product famous in market. Nowadays, many companies advertise their services by highlighting new or improved features. In this essay, I would like to shed light on reason for this and demerits of this.
Apparently, there are a lot reasons for this, but the major one is that, they want to attract public attention toward their product. To explain it more, generally in advertisements companies usually show the functions of that product, along with that, they usually highlights the small features of that product to make their promotion more attractive among people. Actually, they want to increase the sales of their company by following marketing strategies. For example, smartphone companies often advertise every new model by highlighting improved cameras, faster processors, or new features in order to attract consumers.
However, there are few demerits of this. Firstly, wastage of product which leads to pollution in environment. To justify it more, companies usually do infinite promotions of their product, which sometimes force individuals to through their old product and buy new one. Which result is, old product kept in garbage make pollution, also new packaging material is use for new product, which incline deforestation. For instance, many people replace their perfectly functional phones with newer models simply because advertisements convince them that the latest version is necessary.
In crux, companies usually advertise their products for attracting people and rising sales of their company, but it negative because it incline pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for emphasizing 'newness' and the evaluation of this trend. However, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the reasons for advertising are clear, the discussion on whether it is a positive or negative development is somewhat one-sided, focusing almost exclusively on the negative environmental impact. To reach a higher band, you should provide a more balanced view or more fully develop the 'positive' side of the argument, such as the benefits of technological innovation or consumer choice, before concluding why the negative aspects outweigh them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'For instance', and 'In crux', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To justify it more' or 'Which result is'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Which result is, old product kept in garbage make pollution', where the grammatical structure hinders the flow of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences connect more naturally would improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marketing strategies', 'perfectly functional', and 'deforestation'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'make product famous' instead of 'promote a product', 'infinite promotions' instead of 'constant advertising', and 'incline pollution' instead of 'contribute to pollution'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they limit your ability to convey ideas with precision. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in market', 'in environment'), subject-verb agreement ('old product kept in garbage make pollution'), and sentence fragments ('Which result is...'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band score.
