Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the emphasis on 'newness' and offering a negative perspective. However, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The ideas regarding marketing strategies and environmental concerns are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. The conclusion is also very brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'triggering toward this are observed here' or 'however, specialty of product'. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel slightly forced. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'in there advertising' (their) and 'umpteen of reasons'. The repetition of basic words like 'product' and 'interesting' limits the sophistication of the writing. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to marketing and consumerism, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to improve clarity and style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('business... emphasis', 'sale of product... depend'), article usage, and pluralisation ('there product', 'different type of interesting marketing'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and noun-verb agreement, and try to vary your sentence structures with more control.
