Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 133 words. Consequently, the ideas are significantly underdeveloped. While the essay touches upon the topic of advertising and the importance of honesty, it does not fully address why businesses emphasize 'newness' in their advertising, nor does it provide a balanced or well-supported argument regarding whether this is a positive or negative development. The response lacks the depth and structure required for an academic task, resulting in a very limited exploration of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of a single block of text. There is no logical progression of ideas; the transition between the discussion of advertising costs and the personal anecdote about the author's father is abrupt and lacks cohesive devices. The use of linking words is minimal and often mechanical, making the flow of the argument disjointed. To improve, the student should organize ideas into distinct paragraphs—introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion—and use transition signals to connect sentences effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'challange', 'experince', 'buisness', 'Makert', 'producs', and 'adversting'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, relying on simple, everyday language. There is little evidence of an attempt to use less common lexical items or precise collocations. To improve, the student needs to expand their vocabulary related to business and marketing and focus on accurate spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('my father take'), article usage ('a any experince'), and sentence structure. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and punctuation is inconsistent. The errors are pervasive and often make the intended meaning difficult to follow. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips is essential.
