Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the modern world, advertisements are everywhere around us on television, social media, and billboards. When companies promotes their items today, they almost highlight that their products are brand new, updated or improved. Businesses choose this marketing strategy because they want to grab the attention of buyers quickly in a crowded market. In my opinion, focusing on new features is a highly positive development for society because it promotes constant innovation and brings better technology into our daily lives.
There are two main reasons why companies focus on new features. First, the market has a lot of competition today. Businesses must show that their products are special to stand out from other brands. Second, customers love to buy the latest items. People easily get bored with old technology. For example, when a smartphone company announces a new camara feature, people get excited. Therefore, advertising new things helps companies attract attention and sell more goods.
I believe this trend is positive because it brings many benefits to consumers. When companies want to make new things, they invest money into research. This means products become safer, faster, and more useful over time. For instance, newer cars use less fuel, which helps people save money and products the environment. Newer home appliances also save electricity. This constant improvement makes our daily lives much easier and more comfortable.
In conclusion, businesses advertise new products to beat their competitors and satisfy customers who want modern things. This is a positive development because it forces companies to improve technology and create better goods for society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly state why businesses emphasize newness (competition and consumer desire) and provide a clear position that this is a positive development. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as smartphone features and fuel-efficient cars. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more nuanced; for instance, you could briefly acknowledge the potential negative impact of 'planned obsolescence' to demonstrate a more balanced perspective, which would further strengthen the development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and ideas progress logically from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First', 'Second', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' effectively. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing is more varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel in the transition between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marketing strategy', 'constant innovation', and 'planned obsolescence' (implied). There are some minor errors, such as 'camara' (spelling) and 'products the environment' (likely a typo for 'protects'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear, but there are occasional grammatical errors, such as 'companies promotes' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex structures. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences through careful proofreading will help you move toward a higher band.
