Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, whatever the firms make, they continue to advertising it in distinct ways, showing their product comprises more advanced features. From my perspective, it is for sure a positive development, as it leads to the popularity of newly synthesized substance.

On one hand, brands are advertising in different ways to grab public's attention. In their marketing campaigns, their central focus heavily rely on convincing people that they have invented something different with unique features, actually it is true. Let's take iPhone, as an example, the company continues to launch mobile phone every year, they not only compromise with the camera quality but also introduce new distinctive features. The iPhone's firm start doing branding of the new upcoming model, a few months before. The aim is particularly creating a hype of upcoming product as well as secure their customers beforehand.

On the other hand, some brands continue to advertise the same thing as a distinctive product, which not only harms the public interest but also influences the firm badly. For instance, a company that is making relatively same product again and again, and copying the designs and ideas of others, presenting them as their niche product as a result, this would highly demotivate public.

In my opinion, advertising is a substantial approach to give products market recognition. But the product without having latest expertise should not be advertised as a new.

All things considered, businesses that are promoting products with unique specifications are worth advertising while those who continue to publicize the same thing are making people fool. Overall, marketing is the safest and relatively better approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation for why companies focus on newness is clear, but the discussion regarding the negative aspects is less developed and relies on general statements rather than specific, well-supported arguments. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more depth in the analysis of the 'negative' side to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'All things considered,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of pronouns and linking phrases could be more varied to improve the overall flow and sophistication of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'marketing campaigns,' 'niche product,' and 'market recognition.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'compromise with the camera quality' (likely meaning 'improve' or 'upgrade') and 'making people fool' (should be 'making fools of people'). These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise control over word usage to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('their central focus heavily rely') and awkward phrasing ('the iPhone's firm start doing branding'). Punctuation is mostly functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices that affect the precision of the writing. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
