Student answer (Band 6.0)

The advertisement and marketing team plays a very significant role in the growth of any brand or business, as they are responsible for the endorsement of products which subsequently impacts the overall sale. That is why the brand or business owners invest much in their advertising teams. So, it is the major job of these teams to attract customers by endorsing the unique attributes of their products because it is a believe that if customers find uniqueness in their products, they will prefer them.

In my opinion, the concept is the necessity of every brand to increase their customer reach and overall sales. For example, there are thousands of makeup brands nowadays. If a women visits a mall to buy some makeup products, she gets confused about preferring one brand over the other. Mostly, customers use price and quality as the criteria for preference of one product over the other but the tough match is between two brands which are economical and both have good quality. Now, any women will prefer the one that claims some unique or new skin care ingredient. So, the brand claiming uniqueness of their product in advertisement and actually proving it achieves customers trust.

Contrary, if this uniqueness, especially with increased prices is just a fake claim, it impacts the brand negatively as the customers feel at some point that the product is not worth the money. Recently, I bought a pack of my favourite biscuits when I went for grocery shopping. I got attracted by the new packaging and a catchy line on the vibrant packaging "now with more filled chocolate". Although, its price had increased a bit but I still bought it as I got attracted by that endorsement. But when I ate it with my evening tea, I found no difference. I got really disappointed as I believe it was not worth my money and I even got offended by their false claim. Hence, in such situations, it can negatively impact the brand image.

In conclusion, endorsing the uniqueness of the products is a good marketing strategy but those qualities and the endorsed uniqueness should actually be present.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, particularly the discussion on consumer confusion and the impact of false claims. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation for why companies focus on newness is a bit repetitive, and the argument could be strengthened by exploring broader economic or psychological reasons beyond just product differentiation. The position is clear, but the analysis of the 'positive' side of the development is less detailed than the 'negative' side, leading to a slight imbalance in the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'Contrary', and 'Hence', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Contrary, if this uniqueness...' which should be 'Conversely' or 'On the contrary'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'the concept' in the second paragraph, which lacks a clear antecedent. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'endorsement', 'unique attributes', and 'marketing strategy'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'it is a believe' (should be 'it is believed') and 'tough match' (should be 'difficult choice' or 'dilemma'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of collocations and refining your use of academic terminology would significantly improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a women' instead of 'a woman'), subject-verb agreement, and word forms ('it is a believe' instead of 'it is believed'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some sentences are slightly run-on. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
