Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern world, many bussinesses shows that their products are different in various ways. This happens because they want to stand out in the market from the competitors and also bussiness owners use it to market themsleves. In my opinion, it has more negative impacts as compared to its benefits, and I will support my point of view with some examples.

To start with, many brands try to enforce that their things are different or have something new but most of the time its just because they want to be in the trend and beat their competitors. Recent example is of Iphone they hurried their launch of phone just to beat their competator. As a result, a lot of new feautres were not working properly. Another factor is brand use this strategy to market themselves so that, they can attract more customers. Businesses use this just as a marketing tool and mostly brag about features which are even not fully developed yet.

It has many adverse impacts, it makes people spend money for the things, which they are not actually getting. This creates a race in the market which is actually not for the betterment, but just to beat each other, even if it takes false discription of products. For instance, Apple advertised that their new phone contains AI robot which will help humans but it was not fully developed when they sold phones to public and later on, they had to call phones back.

To conclude, in my opinion although there could be some benefits in emphasising that brand owners have new things to offer in their products, but if it is use to misguide customers, it has very negative impacts which can cause mistrust in the consumers. Bussiness owners should not use it attract the clients, but to actually benefit the client.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the example of Apple is relevant, the explanation of why this is a 'negative development' could be more nuanced. The argument relies heavily on a single example, which leads to a slight over-generalization. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the broader economic or psychological implications of this trend beyond just product recalls or marketing tactics.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. There is a progression of ideas, though the transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For instance, the use of 'To start with' and 'To conclude' is standard but effective. Cohesive devices are used, but there is some repetition of phrasing (e.g., 'businesses' and 'it'). Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to punctuation errors. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the 'why' and the 'impact' sections would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'competitors', 'marketing tool', and 'adverse impacts'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'bussinesses', 'competator', 'feautres', 'discription') and some word choice issues, such as 'enforce that their things are different' instead of 'emphasize that their products are innovative'. The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision and the recurring spelling mistakes prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('many bussinesses shows') and article usage ('Recent example is of Iphone'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices and missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
