Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's advertisement industry, companies focus on new features in their products. Many companies use this tactic to prove that their item is better than other companies item. I strongly believe that it is a negative development because companies over promise and under deliver to undermine their competition.
The advertisement department of companies are utilizing human psychology in marketing to increase the sale of a product. Consequently, companies are introducing new features in an item to trick human brain in believing that the product is better than ever. This creates an illusion in individuals that they are paying a fair price for the item with a new element. For instance, a face wash is advertised with the text new advanced formula to counter acne and dull skin causes humans to believe that it is true and better in comparison to other face wash of a different company.
However, even though products are often advertised with new implementation does not mean its claim is true. It is often a tactic to have substantial growth in the sales and profit of the company. Furthermore, making false claims can lead to distrust among the users causing uproar against the rule and regulations that these companies follow. For example, a company in Pakistan says its product is halal whereas its ingredient lists says otherwise. Another negative development would be overconsumption of products that are not needed by individuals. As a result, people buy products that they do not use and are wasted. This might increase the sales of a company but it creates more waste and trash that needs to be handled by the government and people.
In conclusion, businesses need to claim what their product has to offer so people buying their products know what they are signing up for. Governments should have policies and standards that these companies should follow to regulate the businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing a clear opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is consistent throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention human psychology and consumer distrust, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with deeper analysis. For instance, the example regarding the halal certification is relevant but could be better integrated to support the broader argument about corporate ethics. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more nuanced reasoning rather than moving quickly between ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'however', and 'furthermore' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence '...causing uproar against the rule and regulations that these companies follow.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'utilizing', 'illusion', and 'overconsumption'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'advertisement department of companies' (should be 'marketing departments') and 'other companies item' (which lacks possessive punctuation). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Attempting to use more precise collocations and academic terminology would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'the advertisement department... are utilizing' (should be 'is utilizing') and 'other face wash of a different company' (should be 'other face washes'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing commas in complex sentences that would improve readability. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage will be beneficial.
