Student answer (Band 6.0)
Advertisement has become one of the leading methods in introducing people to certain products. Many businesses currently project their products as a new invention when advertising and this development is to gain the interest of their intended customer and also drives sales.
The main reason for this recent establishment is to capture the interest of potential consumers. Humans are curious beings many companies has realized this, so they introduce their products to people while passing a message that it is "New" in order satisfy a certain need. For instance, skincare brands when introducing a product that caters to certain conditions like Acne and hyper pigmentation.
In addition, businesses do this for them to drive sales while feeding on individual’s needs and curiosity. The power of advertisement with an encrypted message makes sales for the company and introduces to even foreign marketplace therefore increasing their profit margin. For example, many women is dealing with PCOS so when new product is brought in to the market, a lot of women purchase it and in return the enterprise earns massively.
In my opinion, I believe this a negative development because some of these products maybe advertised under false pretense. The product might promise to new to deal with certain problems with different formulation whereby it’s the regular ingredient in other similar product or even worse it may contain harmful ingredients therefore, putting the public in harm’s way medically and financially.
In conclusion, the reason for this might seem plausible and agreeable. However, this advertisement might be false and can cause serious harm to people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for emphasizing 'newness' and the writer's opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on consumer curiosity and the potential for deceptive marketing. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of why businesses use this strategy is clear, but the discussion on the negative aspects could be more nuanced. For instance, the argument about 'false pretense' is a strong point, but it could be better supported with more specific examples or a deeper analysis of the impact on consumer trust. Overall, the position is clear throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'In addition' is standard, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to the limited variety of linking words. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which helps the reader navigate the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'plausible', 'encrypted message', and 'hyper pigmentation', though some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'encrypted message' in the context of advertising. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'new invention' instead of 'innovation' or 'novelty'. While the range is sufficient to express ideas, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. The vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many companies has realized', 'many women is dealing with'), missing articles ('promise to new to deal with'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, with some sentences feeling slightly awkward or grammatically incomplete.
