Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to fully address the prompt. While it touches on why businesses emphasize 'newness' (to increase business and inform customers), it lacks a clear, sustained position on whether this is a positive or negative development. The ideas are under-developed and repetitive, focusing more on the general convenience of online shopping rather than the specific implications of marketing 'new' products. Furthermore, the response is slightly under the minimum word count, which limits the depth of the argument. To improve, you must explicitly state your opinion in the introduction and dedicate specific paragraphs to supporting that stance with clear, logical arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are weak and often mechanical. For example, the shift from discussing advertising to the convenience of online shopping is abrupt and lacks a cohesive link. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, making the text feel disjointed. To achieve a higher band, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to guide the reader through your argument more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing like 'buy products' or 'know about'. There is limited evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'ranges of amount' instead of 'price points' or 'affects' used incorrectly as a noun. To improve, focus on expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to marketing and consumer behavior. Using more precise synonyms will help convey your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'who has not proper knowledge'), sentence structure (e.g., run-on sentences in the first paragraph), and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'affects' instead of 'effects'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly connected complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency. Increasing the use of varied, error-free complex sentences will significantly improve your score.
