Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely seen that, advertisements presents products details as new for some factors by business organisations. The reason behind this is that they want to promote their products. In my perspective this is negative development and I will discuss in this essay.

To commence with, in this competitive era businessmen tend to promote their brand to stay always ahead in the race of business growth. Advertisements are the easiest way to come into the sight of customers. But due to the competition in the market organisations’ marketing teams advertise brands with the features which are already circulating in the market. Therefore, companies have to make false promises about the product by stating that our product is far way better than other similar product. For instance, Coca Cola and Pepsi have long running rivalry, similarly, I phone and Samsung. They all claim that their product is better than other by showing adds favouring themselves with always something new and better.

I think advertisements like these put adverse effect on preference of the consumers. Some time people get distracted by these exaggerated advertisements and choose wrong product for themselves. This may cause them dissatisfaction about the product and lose interest to buy again. As a result, people start ignoring that product, consequently, sales of that certain product go down and organisation have to face financial losses. Moreover, these advertisements are not morally right, as it spread fake narrative about the product.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that business companies have to promote their products, but they are using inappropriate way to do promotions by creating advertisements saying it has something new in it. However, owing to competition in market companies marketing teams are doing these kind of advertisements.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention competition as a driver for these advertisements, the explanation of why this is a 'negative development' relies heavily on the assumption that all such claims are 'false' or 'fake,' which is a generalization. To improve, provide more nuanced examples or explore the potential benefits of innovation, even if you ultimately argue it is negative, to demonstrate a more balanced and thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with,' 'Therefore,' and 'Moreover.' However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In my perspective this is negative development and I will discuss in this essay.' Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the first paragraph without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'competitive era,' 'marketing teams,' and 'financial losses.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'advertisements presents' (should be 'present') and 'adds' (should be 'ads'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on repetitive phrasing. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid basic errors in word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('advertisements presents'), missing articles ('in market' instead of 'in the market'), and awkward phrasing ('far way better'). While these errors do not typically impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization, article usage, and verb tense consistency to improve your accuracy.
