Student answer (Band 5.0)

In present days, successful business is the only priority of most of the individuals related to this field. Advertisement in business is as crucial as investment is. New products are valued highly in market, so companies try to make them. Most of the companies pay heed to advertising only, while making no new products. In my opinion, it is a negative development and is only a way of fooling people.

Its major cause is the steady increase in production of goods of every kind. Due to this, some undeveloped companies have no idea to make new type of goods. It is a way of making cheating people as they are unaware of the reality of product, but the advertisements make them completely diff

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the task achievement. Because the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the ideas are not fully developed. While you have identified a position (that it is a negative development), the supporting arguments are underdeveloped and lack specific examples or depth. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt—the reasons for the emphasis on 'newness' and your opinion on whether it is positive or negative—while meeting the word count to allow for a full exploration of your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure due to its brevity. While there is an attempt at an introduction and a body paragraph, the abrupt ending prevents a logical conclusion or a cohesive flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and linking your ideas with transition words such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in contrast' to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally functional but limited in range. You use basic terms like 'successful business' and 'make new products,' which are repetitive. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'making cheating people,' which is grammatically and lexically incorrect. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to marketing and consumer behavior. For example, instead of 'fooling people,' you could use 'misleading consumers' or 'deceptive marketing practices.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your ideas with more sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In present days' (should be 'Nowadays' or 'In the present day') and 'some undeveloped companies have no idea to make new type of goods' (which is awkward and lacks proper article usage). The incomplete sentence at the end also negatively affects the grammatical assessment. To improve, focus on using a variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, and proofread carefully to ensure subject-verb agreement and correct article usage.
