Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—the reasons for emphasizing 'newness' and your opinion on whether this is positive or negative—the arguments are underdeveloped. The conclusion is missing entirely, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the essay unfinished. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed examples and ensure you provide a full, structured conclusion that summarizes your position. The current length prevents a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition words like 'In regards to the statement' and 'on the other hand'. However, the progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is cut off abruptly, which disrupts the flow of the argument. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical use of some cohesive devices makes the writing feel disjointed. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked smoothly throughout the entire piece, including a proper conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cut-throat rivalry' and 'promotional drive'. However, there are several spelling errors ('ear' instead of 'era', 'ravilary' instead of 'rivalry', 'manpulation', 'manufactuers', 'unehically', 'trusr') and word choice issues ('affect' used instead of 'effect'). These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and ensure that you are using words in the correct context. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'the trend... are escalating' (subject-verb agreement), 'most of the organizations stress that their products are new to increase sales' (which is grammatically acceptable but lacks sophistication), and punctuation issues such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences. The incomplete final sentence also demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent capitalization, and ensuring that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
