Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this current phenomenon, it is often argued that in the modern advertising system, Businesses are showing their products in a way that they are very significant. This trend occurs as they want to aware the consumers that their products is like something new. However, I believe that this trend has both positive and negative development and it will be streamlined in the subsequent paragraphs.

There are some positive development for this trend. First and forest, strategy to attract customers. To explain it further, advertise nowadays are like attracting the customers towards them, they will displayed their, product packaging, steps for using and their crazy outcomes that customers knows about the products in detail. For instance, beauty products shows their advertise by showing it how to use and their outcome that attract the women very often and quickly. Secondly, it's a method for increasing the sales count. To put it in other words, advertising are made for improvising the sales. Nowadays, with the help of artificial intelligence, advertise are attracting customers who likes the similar products on social media. As a result, this directly helps businesses to increasing their sales.

Despite, the positive development there are some negative development. Firstly, advertise leads the users towards impulsive buying. To elaborate this, advertise are created in such a way that the particular business product is a big brand, although the product do not have such a good outcome. This leads the customers towards taking wrong decision. Secondly, advertising agencies using the celebrity faces to advertise the product for attracting a range of new users and this will increase the particular product sales.

Conclusively, Businesses are emphasizing their product in a way that their product is unique from others. In my view, i believe that this trend has certain positive development such as strategy of attracting customers and increasing sales, but the negative developments like displaying like a branded product and using celebrity faces leads towards impulsive buying that cannot be overshadow.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why businesses use 'newness' is repetitive, and the arguments regarding impulsive buying and celebrity endorsements are not fully explored or linked back to the core concept of 'newness' effectively. While a position is clear, the supporting points lack depth and specific, well-integrated examples, which limits the score to a 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'Despite the positive development', though some are used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'Despite, the positive development'). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which helps the reader follow the argument despite the linguistic limitations.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is frequent repetition of basic words like 'advertise' (used as a noun) and 'products'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'improvising the sales' (instead of 'improving') and 'aware the consumers' (instead of 'make consumers aware'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and the lack of sophisticated collocation or idiomatic expression prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('products is', 'advertise are'), incorrect word forms ('advertise' used as a noun for 'advertisements'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors is high. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that nouns and verbs agree in number.
