Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, businesses frequently highlights advertisements of their products to stand out from heavy market competition. I personally believe that its a negative development because it creates more harm than anything good. This essay tends to analyze the reasons behind this, including my inclinations in the ensuing paragraphs.
The foremost reason to justify my stand is that businesses are using it as a marketing strategy to attract more customers by labelling an item as 'new' in the advertisements. For instance, fierce competition because markets, nowadays are highly crowded, so brands are emphasizing unique highlights to the products in their advertisements to gather strong attention of the customers. Therefore, as far as, my opinions are concerned, it is completely a negative development for the economy as it encourages more waste. Because constant ads push local people to throw away the working items and to buy new products as a replacement.
Another reason to justify my perspective is that frequent advertisements on the social media platforms and tv, pushes people naturally who wanted upgraded, modern, or trendy items that offer a sense of status in the community. Moreover, it has a significant impact on the environment as well. Because, fast-moving consumer goods and electronics create massive amounts of unnecessary trash. Thus, damaging the environment of the society.
To conclude, it can be firmly commented that business advertisements are just made, to attract maximum number of customers to buy their products, which is actually a business strategy, which leads to various problems like damage to the environment and the collection of excessive trash. Therefore, these kinds of advertisements should be penalized as soon as possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasise that products are new, and whether this is a positive or negative development. A clear position is stated in the introduction ("I personally believe that its a negative development"), and this perspective is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended with reasons concerning marketing strategies and environmental impacts, such as "encourages more waste" and "fast-moving consumer goods and electronics create massive amounts of unnecessary trash." However, some supporting ideas remain slightly repetitive or under-developed, aligning best with Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, maintaining a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "The foremost reason," "Moreover," and "To conclude." However, some transitional phrasing and referencing feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as "including my inclinations in the ensuing paragraphs" or sentence fragments like "Because constant ads push..." Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but overall cohesion occasionally lacks the smooth flexibility found at higher band levels.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "fierce competition," "marketing strategy," and "fast-moving consumer goods." However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation issues, such as "businesses frequently highlights advertisements" (plural/singular mismatch and awkward phrasing) and "gather strong attention." Spelling and word forms are generally clear, but these inaccuracies keep the vocabulary score within the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and introductory phrases. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("businesses frequently highlights"), punctuation errors (comma splices), and fragments starting with subordinating conjunctions ("Because constant ads push..."). Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 7.
