Student answer (Band 6.0)
Now a days, businesses are using a smart technique to promote their products, and they are emphasising that their product is unique with different specifications, because they want to use the marketing tactics and focus on increasing their sale. I believe that it is a negative development as these tactics play with the emotions of viewers, and they end up spending their hard earned money.
In my opinion, the marketing techniques businesses use in which they show advertisements, portraying that they are selling a unique product is a negative development. People get influenced by these advertisements, and they end up buying those products, believing that the products will give promising results. Moreover, they also damage the trust of people, when they realise that the product that was sold was just a copy of any other thing that was already availaible in market.
In addition to that, these false claiming advertisements can also reduce the future sale of the company, even when they will try to sell an actually new product. For example, I was going through plantar fascitis and I saw a massage gun and bought it, because the selling company claimed that it is a unique product, which will make any pain go away. Later i found out that the same product was availaible on amazon in cheaper price. As a result, I lost my trust in that company and decided to never buy anything from them in future. If businesses emphasise that their product is new, they might get some good sales of that specific product, but it will damage the credibility of the company.
In conclusion, I believe that businesses putting emphasis on portraying that the product they are selling is different is a negative development, as it will damage the credibility of the company in long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons why businesses emphasise new products and whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer takes a clear position throughout the essay, arguing that it is a negative development primarily because it damages consumer trust and company credibility. Ideas are supported with relevant explanations and a personal example regarding a massage gun. However, the development tends to be somewhat repetitive, particularly in how the arguments about trust and marketing tactics are restated across the body paragraphs without introducing distinct new dimensions. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0, as it addresses the prompt adequately but features under-developed, slightly repetitive main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, such as the general negative impact in paragraph two and the specific example in paragraph three. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing and somewhat mechanical cohesive devices like 'In addition to that' and 'As a result'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical flow between sentences could be smoother. There are instances where sentences feel bolted together rather than naturally flowing. This matches the Band 6.0 descriptor for coherent overall arrangement with cohesion that is sometimes faulty or mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'specifications', 'emotions', 'credibility', and 'plantar fascitis'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, or collocation, such as 'availaible' instead of 'available', 'in cheaper price' instead of 'at a cheaper price', and 'false claiming advertisements'. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect the limitations typical of a Band 6.0 performance, where the lexical range is sufficient to communicate the main points but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If businesses emphasise...') and relative clauses ('...when they realise that the product...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, such as comma splices and incorrect prepositions ('in cheaper price', 'in future'). Capitalisation errors also occur, such as the lowercase 'i' in the third paragraph. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. This balance of a mixed structural range alongside frequent minor errors aligns closely with the official Band 6.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
