Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing why businesses emphasise new features in their advertising and offering a clear position that this is a positive development. Ideas are generally relevant, such as increased competition and technological advancements, though some points are slightly repetitive. For example, the student mentions that businesses represent their products in a different way for more customer attraction multiple times. The personal example about the clothing shop adds some support, though it remains a bit simplistic. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though the second body paragraph is quite dense and covers multiple ideas without clear transitional signposts. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'They are' or 'This could be'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'As a result this increases'. Progression is present, but logical links between sentences occasionally falter, aligning the cohesion with Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'significant factor', 'animated styles', and 'user-friendly interface'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'socities' (societies) and 'varities' (varieties). Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'keep updated on my status'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, the frequent inaccuracies prevent the response from reaching Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense issues ('Advertising became', 'businesses emphasizing'), subject-verb agreement errors ('the socities leds', 'where people gets'), and preposition misuses. Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as comma splices or unnecessary fragments like 'Furthermore give attention to...'. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader, this corresponds to a Band 5.0.
