Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, businesses normally emphasise that their products are new by their advertising. While there are some positive development and as well as a few negative development. I will discuss both aspects in the essay.

People may always want some changes in the product they are using and business take this advantages. They show their product somewhat new then other in their advertising to attract consumers. Furthermore, to make a new product is not that hard, they can just simply change a minor manufacturing process to called the product is brand new even though products serves exactly same purpose. This is a significantly positive development for business owners to draw consumers attentions by advertising. Additionally, by this competitive nature of businesses, products are getting better day by day. For instance, sunscreen has been gone through a significant development and nowadays we are able to use cemical free sunscreen that we never thought about before.

On the other hand, behind those provoking advertisment, normally there is not that much changes in new product. Basically, most business selling same product yet showing as major changes in new one.

Sometimes manufacturing informations are misleading on the label of the products and businesses keep them intentionally so that they can manipulate cosumers easily through advertisment. Moreover, lack of care or time while buying things can be used negetively by the manufacturer.

In conclusion, while busineeses usually emphasise new products to attract consumers as new make a new product is not difficult, over these iteration we sometimes can have very useful goods. Whereas, some business ower can use this advertising negatively by manipulating consumers with the misleading informations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasise that their products are new, and whether this is a positive or negative development. The student states their position in the introduction and covers both aspects across the body paragraphs. For instance, the writer notes that businesses highlight new features to attract consumers and that iterative improvements lead to better goods, such as 'chemical free sunscreen'. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the negative aspects, which are described in general terms without sufficient extension or concrete examples. The conclusion also suffers from awkward phrasing ('as new make a new product is not difficult'). While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of support aligns best with Band 5.5 to 6.0; however, the clear attempt to address both prompts and present a structured point of view warrants a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall coherent arrangement. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate the different aspects of the prompt. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty or mechanical. The opening sentence of the second body paragraph ('People may always want some changes in the product they are using and business take this advantages') contains awkward referencing and transitional flaws. Furthermore, transitional markers like 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' are used mechanically rather than to create a genuinely smooth progression of thought. While the essay is readable and follows a logical overall structure, the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and occasional unclear referencing restrict the score to Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts relating to business and advertising, such as 'consumers', 'manufacturing process', and 'manipulate'. However, there are numerous word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'cemical free' (chemical-free), 'busineeses' (businesses), 'ower' (owner), and 'informational' used incorrectly as a plural noun ('informations'). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'competitive nature' and 'provocative', but inaccuracies in spelling and morphological form prevent the response from achieving a higher band. These lexical errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable and persistent, which places the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical instability include 'While there are some positive development and as well as a few negative development' (fragmented structure and plural agreement errors) and 'businesses selling same product yet showing as major changes in new one' (omitted articles and missing subjects/verbs). Punctuation and verb tense consistency also present issues, such as 'has been gone through' instead of 'has gone through'. Although simple sentences are often clear, errors in complex grammar frequently cause strain for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a Band 6.0, justifying a Band 5.0.
