Student answer (Band 5.0)

As discussed above that the businesses nowadays usually use innovations to attract customers they usually emphasise that their products are new in some way to grow their businesses.

This is because they know that nowadays customers are attracted to new things , when they see something new in a product they want to use them to know if they actually useful or not. New things attract people for example in cosmetics their are multiples types of lipsticks in market nowadays , so girls prefer to buy something that they never used before like glossy lipstick which is a new thing and girls love to buy them because they are rid of matte lipsticks.

From my perspective, I think it is a positive development because sometimes we get of rid of using the same thing again and again so we demand a new product in place of it. For example in skincare products there are new innovations recently. There are multiple types of formulas in skincare products and new innovations are produced regularly so girls are enticed by them. Even in nights cream there are many options for girls.

Overall, there are also some drawbacks of it because new products cost expensive. New products nowadays in markets are so expensive some products are even not worth their cost so I think it’s a waste of money sometimes specially for people who don’t have much knowledge of these things like some formulas which some girls have don’t enough knowledge and they cause adverse affects on their skin; conversely the girls who have enough knowledge new products are beneficial for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the task: why businesses emphasize newness and whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the explanation of why businesses emphasize newness relies heavily on a single extended example of cosmetics and lipsticks, which leads to over-generalization. Similarly, the discussion of the positive and negative aspects touches on skincare products and adverse effects, but the arguments lack depth and clear structuring. While the position is generally discernible, the ideas remain under-developed, aligning best with a Band 5 response under the official descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks clear overall progression and logical paragraphing. The essay begins with an unusual introductory clause ('As discussed above that...') rather than a proper introduction. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the main body and conclusion running together into a confusing structure. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, leading to mechanical referencing and run-on sentences. For instance, ideas flow into one another without adequate transitional markers or clear demarcations between the reasons and the evaluation. These issues in organisation and cohesion are characteristic of a Band 5 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms such as 'new things', 'products', 'innovations', and 'girls'. There are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cost expensive' instead of 'expensive' or 'cost a lot', and 'adverse affects' instead of 'effects'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'enticed' and 'innovations', the limited range and frequent lexical errors that cause some difficulty for the reader place this response firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily reliant on simple and error-prone complex forms. There are numerous run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as missing commas and periods, which force the reader to pause and re-read, exemplified in sentences like 'This is because they know that nowadays customers are attracted to new things , when they see something new in a product they want to use them to know if they actually useful or not.' Errors in agreement and verb forms are frequent. Given the limited control over complex sentence structures and frequent errors, the response corresponds to a Band 5 for grammar.
