Student answer (Band 6.0)
Businesses are becoming quiet competitive in the contemporary era. Every business claims that their products are innovative as compared to the same products available in the market. The major reason behind this claim is that innovation is the best strategy to grow the businesses as nowadays, more customers are attracted towards innovation that promote sustainable development as well. I personally believe that focus on innovation is a positive development, only if innovation is made and claimed honestly.
In contemporary days, many businesses are running through social media. Adding innovation in their products makes their advertisements on the social media pages attract and influence the people greatly. It assists the bussiness owners to give a tough competition in the market as the innovative product attracts the people towards special, new and enhanced features of the released product. For instance, a business owner who emphasises that the jewllery of his brand contains a special feature that it constitutes the hand-made work in it. As all other jewllery products available in the market are somehow machine-made so it actually gives a special reason to attract the customers towards his jewllery brand.
Another aspect of positive devlopment of innovation and its promotion is that it also encourages the sustainability. As the climate in contemporary era is immensely threatened by the climate changes occuring these days, I believe that more businesses should incline their business strategies towards the innovation, creativity and sustainability that promote inclusive approaches to the positive aspects of development. It will also assist them in winning the competition in the market for their products.
In conclusion, I believe the innovation is the most efficient way to promote the progression of the businesses nowadays days. For this reason, many businesses are emphasizing on innovation and creativity in their products. I also beleive that focusing on innovation will promote sustainable changes of development in the future economies as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why businesses emphasise that their products are new and evaluating whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer takes a clear position in the introduction stating that focusing on innovation is a positive development, provided it is done honestly. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the jewellery brand incorporating hand-made work. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly repetitive, particularly when discussing sustainability and market competition. Overall, the task is well addressed, meeting the requirements of a Band 6.5 or solid 7.0 by covering all parts thoroughly and maintaining a clear stance throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response displays a clear logical organisation and progression. The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs that serve the purpose of introduction, body points, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'The major reason behind this claim', 'For instance', and 'Another aspect of positive development'. However, referencing and paragraph transitions are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately overall, but some transitional phrasing feels somewhat formulaic. This places the performance firmly in the Band 6 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'contemporary era', 'innovative', 'sustainable development', and 'inclusive approaches'. However, there are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'businesses are becoming quiet competitive' (spelling/choice of 'quite'), 'jewllery' (spelling), 'hand-made work', and 'beleive' (spelling). While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary attempts are present but lack precise control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts complex structures using relative clauses and subordinate clauses, such as 'I personally believe that focus on innovation is a positive development, only if innovation is made and claimed honestly.' However, there are several grammatical and mechanical errors present throughout the text, including article misuse ('the jewllery', 'the innovation'), preposition errors, and subject-verb agreement slips. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede overall communication, placing the response at Band 6.0.
