Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasise that their products are new, and whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer attempts to cover the reasons for advertising novelty, such as attracting attention, as well as the negative aspects like trust issues. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, with abrupt transitions between points and repetitive phrasing. For instance, the discussion of positive developments mentions quality and feedback, but lacks fully realized elaboration or specific real-world examples in that section. The stance is generally clear throughout the essay, fitting the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are presented but remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is hampered by mechanical and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive devices, such as starting sentences with 'If the product have quality people will purchase however if the product...' without proper punctuation or referencing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is faulty. For example, the second body paragraph jumps from digital platforms to product quality and feedback in a single, run-on sequence. Referencing is occasionally unclear, matching the Band 5 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it is repetitive and limited in range. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'manufactured' and 'development', but suffers from frequent word choice and spelling errors (e.g., 'thier' for their, 'requierments' for requirements, 'develpoments' for developments, 'agood' for a good). These errors do not completely impede communication, but they cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical range characteristic of Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are multiple grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the product have', 'customer requierments can led'), missing articles, and run-on sentences ('If the product have good quality and with reasonable price then people purchase it , so the product should be build in such a way that it attract customer...'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, aligning closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
