Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why businesses emphasise new products and giving an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the essay is abruptly cut off mid-sentence after 186 words, which falls well short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Because of this severe under-length, the ideas remain underdeveloped and the conclusion is incomplete. The position is stated, but the lack of completion prevents full task fulfillment. This warrants a band score of 4.0 for failing to meet the minimum length and insufficiently developing the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, and basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly' are used to connect ideas. However, the logical progression is hindered by the truncated nature of the response and abrupt ending. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs are dense and lack seamless links. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'show this change in advertising which enables their sale'. While there is an underlying organizational structure, the overall coherence suffers from the incomplete text. This performance aligns with a band score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is fairly basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on words like 'advertising', 'products', 'sale', and 'business'. There are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'compition' instead of competition, 'pakaging' instead of packaging, 'promot' instead of promote, 'definitly' instead of definitely, 'propotional' instead of proportional, and 'ecomony' instead of economy. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing restrict the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and awkwardly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing subject-verb agreement or incorrect verb forms in phrases like 'Advertising make great impact', 'a company who make baby skin care products make some changes', and 'These things motivats people'. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also occur. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, the grammar fits the band 5.0 descriptors.
