Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by examining why businesses emphasise new products and offering a clear opinion that this is a positive development. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as mentioning competition and giving examples from the beauty and mobile industries. However, some arguments lack full depth, particularly in how consumer psychology is explained, and the examples are slightly generalised rather than fully unpacked. Nonetheless, the position is clear throughout and all prompt requirements are met, aligning well with a Band 6.5 or 7.0 descriptor. Overall, the task response is solid and meets the communicative requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure and a logical progression of ideas, beginning with an introduction, moving through the reasons and the positive aspects, and concluding with a summary. Paragraphing is utilised adequately, with distinct sections for each main point. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly phrased, such as 'To commence with the foremost reason' and 'I particularly, believe this development positive'. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, but the overall progression of the essay is coherent enough to allow the reader to follow the writer's arguments without significant confusion, placing it comfortably in the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'competitive marketplace', 'prevalent trend', and 'innovative'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'that there products' (their), 'remain significant' (relevant), 'customers also attract toward' (are attracted towards), and 'mobiles companies continuously introducing'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0, as precision and natural control are not consistently sustained across the piece.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation awkwardness, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('entrepreneur to introduce' instead of entrepreneurs, 'mobiles companies continuously introducing' instead of continuously introduce), missing prepositions, and misplaced commas ('I particularly, believe'). While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The majority of sentences contain minor slips or structural flaws, which is characteristic of Band 6.0.
