Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary world, many businesses claim that their products are newly formulated while advertising them. It is done to attract new customers and to boost the sales of the product. In my opinion, it is completely a negative development because it can encourage unnecessary consumption and contributes to environmental waste.
To put it simply, advertisements promote novelty and claim about better formulation and the results of the product to attract new customers and boost their sales. In turn, the companies focus on boosting their profit margins and hence, end up gaining popularity in the market. Moreover, to remain in the competition with the top businesses, companies use these advanced marketing strategies to boost their popularity and sales.
However, i believe that this trend is a complete negative development as it can lead to overconsumption of products. Many companies and businesses modify their products with almost negligible concentration and end up hyping them as new and better formulation. As a result, consumers get motivated to purchase them and discard the previously purchased products. Moreover, the hyped up products often fail to cope with the expectations of the consumers and result in unnecessary consumption and the production of waste. This produced waste is toxic to the environment due to toxic chemicals and produces plastic waste.
In conclusion, although companies use advertising tactics to claim better formulation and results, i believe that it is a negative development as it leads to production of waste and results to unnecessary consumption of resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, explaining why businesses emphasize novelty in advertising and providing a clear position that it is a negative development. Ideas are present, such as increased consumption and environmental waste, but they tend to be repetitive and lack deep elaboration. Furthermore, as noted in the length check, the essay falls one word short of the 250-word minimum requirement at 249 words, which slightly restricts the fullness of the task response. To improve, ensure you fully develop your arguments with specific examples and strictly meet the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical arrangement, moving from introduction to the reasons behind the trend, the negative impacts, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'As a result' are utilized to connect ideas, though at times referencing feels slightly mechanical. Overall, the organizational structure is sound and guides the reader effectively through the student's arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with attempts at less common phrasing such as 'contemporary world', 'profit margins', and 'unnecessary consumption'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'claim about better formulation' instead of 'claim to have better formulation', and 'results to unnecessary consumption', which should be 'results in'. Spelling is accurate throughout, but the range of vocabulary remains somewhat standard rather than sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like subordinate clauses and conditional elements. Grammatical control is generally fair, and communication is never impeded. However, there are some recurring minor errors, such as the lowercase personal pronoun 'i' in 'i believe', and occasional awkward phrasings like 'contributes to environmental waste' following an uncountable noun structure. Punctuation is mostly accurate, though sentence variety could be expanded to demonstrate greater syntactic flexibility.
