Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this contemporary era, everyone wants to try new and usefull products. Some people beleive that businesses nowadays advertise their products which attract people to try their products. From my point of view advertisement is the best way to grow our businesses and attract people to use our products.

To some extent, I consider that this development is positive. First and foremost, advertisement is the best way to introduce new product in the market, for this social media is the bst way because , nowadays everyone have their own phones and they spend most of the time on social media, So if the advertisement is attractive or short then people always watch it and want to try new products.

Secondly, advertisement attract people to use their product and if our product is good and pople like it then this become more popular and make a hype in the market.

On the other hand, i beleive that there are some negative impact of this development due to following reasons. Firstly, advertisement make a big competition among with other brands because every brand want to attract people to use their product. Secondly, If we think our product is new and people do not like it then this is the bad impact of it in the eyes of people.

In conclusion, to some extent , i beleive that advertisement is the best way to attract people and our new products in the market. On the other hand , this development may cause competition among big brands and componies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why businesses emphasise that products are new, and whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the student states that advertisement is 'the best way to introduce new product' but fails to fully explain the underlying consumer psychology or business motives behind highlighting 'newness'. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments regarding the negative impacts remain brief and under-developed, relying on general assertions rather than concrete examples. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing it firmly at a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, showing an attempt at a logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is weakened by repetitive phrasing and poor logical transitions. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the mechanical repetition of 'On the other hand' and 'Firstly / Secondly'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from run-on sentences and punctuation issues, particularly with comma splices. Referencing is sometimes unclear, notably the shifts between first-person plural ('our businesses') and third-person perspectives. This level of organisation aligns with a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent misspellings such as 'usefull', 'beleive', and 'componies'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era' and 'hype in the market', but word choice and collocation are often imprecise or informal. While the range is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about advertising and competition, the persistent spelling and lexical errors occasionally distract the reader. These features reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone have', 'advertisement make'), incorrect pronoun usage, and extensive misuse of commas (comma splices separating independent clauses). Complex structures are often faulty, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. Although the meaning is generally retrievable, the density of grammatical and punctuation errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher score, making Band 5.0 an accurate reflection of current performance.
