Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many companies prefer advertising for something they never had to attract more customers. I strongly disagree with this kind of act. However, they are losing public trust, as well as wasting customers' time.

In my opinion, when people want to buy a product, first thing they do is to see advertising for that product, but when they do not get what they truly desired, they face a lot of disappointment. Companies prefer their own profit margin over the customer demand, that results in a waste of time. This act also betrays the public trust and their interest. For example, once my friend wanted to buy a shirt, we saw massive advertising for that brand. We planned to buy that shirt from the market. We travelled for 2 hours continuously, and then reached there, but the quality was not much satisfactory, so we did not buy that shirt and came back disappointed.

Therefore, businesses should not quit their advertising, but they should should consider customers' satisfaction first, as in today's era, advertising become so easy, but we have to consider the basic morals and ethics first. For possitive development, we have to be more conscious about these thing.

In conclusion, for the sake of positive development, companies and business handlers should avoid fake advertising, they are not just losing the public truts but also their future customers, as the basic target of private companies is profit maximization, so they have to build the public trust first. By advertising product in new way can decline their profit margin.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding why businesses emphasise new products and whether this is a positive or negative development, adopting a clear position that it is a negative development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the reason provided for why companies do this is primarily centered on profit, and the negative impact is illustrated through a single personal anecdote about shopping for a shirt. While the main stance is clear throughout, the arguments lack sufficient breadth and depth to reach higher bands. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5.0 descriptors, where the task is addressed, but ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organised into four paragraphs with a basic structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is hampered by abrupt transitions and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'Therefore, businesses should not quit their advertising, but they should should consider customers' satisfaction first'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding paragraph where pronouns like 'they' refer back ambiguously to companies or handlers. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion lacks seamlessness. These features are characteristic of Band 5.0, displaying some organisation but lacking clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday terms such as 'advertising', 'products', 'customers', and 'profit'. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'profit maximization' and 'public trust', but these are offset by word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, including phrases like 'advertising for something they never had' and 'for possitive development'. Spelling errors like 'possitive' and 'truts' also appear. While communication is not severely impeded, the limited range and noticeable errors place this response firmly in Band 5.0 for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences frequently contain errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'Companies prefer their own profit margin over the customer demand, that results in a waste of time.' There are noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors throughout, including missing articles ('first thing they do'), incorrect verb tenses or forms ('advertising become so easy'), and repetitive structures. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, matching the requirements for Band 5.0 where a limited range of structures is used and frequent errors persist.
