Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why businesses emphasise new products and stating a clear personal position that it is a negative development. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the reasons given for the trend centre mainly on competition and increasing production, but these points are explained with general assertions rather than fully elaborated examples. The mention of false information is relevant, yet it remains somewhat generalised throughout the body paragraphs. While the main task requirements are met, the depth of discussion places this response firmly at Band 5.0, as the ideas remain somewhat restricted and under-developed, lacking the fully extended arguments expected at higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organised into clear paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic or inaccurate, such as 'Thats way', 'For illustrate', and 'As the result'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by cohesion errors and referencing issues, such as 'these thing impact the business and customer to.' This level of organisation and cohesive control aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, where some overall structure exists, but cohesive devices are frequently inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms related to business and marketing, such as 'manipulate', 'competition', and 'consumption', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples of lexical errors include 'convence' instead of convince, 'thier' for their, 'reasion' for reason, 'enhace' for enhance, 'butter' for better, 'compitition' for competition, 'hiegh' for high, 'prodoct' for product, 'compnies' for companies, 'belive' for believe, 'Furtharmore' for furthermore, and 'breake' for break. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structures throughout the text, such as 'thier product are more creative', 'the reasion of this are competition', and 'business men trying to gain customer to provide the false information'. Punctuation is also erratic, with spaces placed incorrectly before commas and periods. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures frequently result in faulty syntax and grammatical breakdowns. These frequent errors correspond to Band 4.5 or 5.0; given that meaning is mostly retrievable despite the strain, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
