Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response makes an attempt to address the prompt regarding why businesses emphasise new products and whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the student struggles significantly to maintain focus on the specific prompt. While the text mentions advertising and positive and negative effects, it does not directly explore why businesses emphasize that products are 'new' (such as to drive consumer demand, stand out in competitive markets, or foster innovation). Instead, the writing drifts into general statements about advertising on social media and government roles. Ideas are heavily repetitive and under-developed, lacking specific explanations or relevant examples related directly to the core prompt. Consequently, this falls under Band 4 as the response addresses the task only minimally and tangentially.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is severely hindered by repetitive phrasing and disjointed sentences. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'To begin with', 'The main reasons is that', and 'Another important point'. Referencing is often unclear (e.g., 'how people use it and how they deal with there situation'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks unity and clear thematic development. Ideas jump abruptly between social media stars, lifestyle impacts, business profits, and government interventions without smooth transitions. This level of organisation aligns best with a Band 4 descriptor, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently enough to ensure clear progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'business', 'people', 'advertising', 'positive', and 'negative'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'dircet', 'satar' (instead of star), 'live' (instead of life), 'inflenced', 'benifit', 'possiasble', 'responsiable', 'chioces', and 'togather'. The student attempts some less common words, but frequent word choice and spelling errors cause strain for the reader. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for communicating basic concepts, matching the criteria for a Band 4 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex constructions are almost uniformly faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The main reasons is that'), incorrect prepositions, and faulty sentence construction (e.g., 'There are business expand in advertising in social media stars'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces regularly placed before commas and periods. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times, placing the writing firmly within Band 4.
