Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is increasingly common for businesses to emphasise the new features of their products in advertisments. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this trend and explain why I believe it is a positive development. One of the main reasons behind this approach is that by emphasising the products as new, they can easily attract more customers. This is mainly because when businesses introduce new product, customers can become more interested and believe that this feature is way more useful than the previous one. Consequently, companies can generate more sales and become advantageous among customers. Another reason for this trend is that sometimes businesses want to compete with other companies. For instance, the well-known mobile phone company launches a new feature that it's compitetors do not offer. This can attract more customers and encourage to buy this latest tehnology mobile phone. As a result, businesses can easily generate revenue and become compitetive in the market. However, from my perspective, it is a positive development because it might help businesses in both economical and competitive perspectives. From this trent, companies can attract customers and make a place in the market. Moreover, they can generate higher income, which they do not able to generate from old features. Furthermore, competition can also encourage businesses to make a better and latest technology and improve their product. In conclusion, it is indeed a common trent at present that businesses introduce new feature of their product as they want to attract a highest amount of customers and generate more sales. However, in my opinion, it is a positive approach specially for growing businesses as this can help them in both financially and competitive way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons behind businesses emphasising new products and providing a clear position that it is a positive development. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as attracting customers and maintaining competitiveness. However, some arguments lack deep extension, and generalisations are present, such as 'businesses can easily generate revenue'. The overall coverage of the prompt is solid, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6 towards 7.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the reasons for the trend versus the evaluation of it being positive. Cohesive devices like 'Consequently', 'Another reason', and 'Moreover' are utilised to sequence ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('Another reason for this trend is...'). Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor awkwardness in logical flow keeps it at this band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'advantageous', 'competitiveness', and 'economical'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'advertisments' instead of 'advertisements', 'compitetors' and 'compitetive' instead of 'competitors' and 'competitive', and 'tehnology' instead of 'technology'. Furthermore, phrasing like 'make a place in the market' or 'in both financially and competitive way' demonstrates inaccurate collocations that limit the score to Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and causal clauses ('This is mainly because when businesses introduce new product, customers can become more interested...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing pluralisation ('introduce new product'), awkward phrasing ('which they do not able to generate'), and morphological errors. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is rarely impeded, and the errors do not overwhelm the presence of functional complex structures, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
