Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why businesses emphasise new products and offering a viewpoint on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear, although the ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on social media and digital marketing in the second paragraph largely reiterates the point made in the introduction. The negative aspect is touched upon with the mention of inappropriate advertisements for children, but this argument remains under-developed. Because the ideas are presented in a somewhat generalised manner without deep extension, the response fits best within Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some organisation. However, progression is weak because ideas tend to loop or repeat rather than advance logically. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is frequently faulty, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as pronoun confusion in sentences like 'what affects their advertisement put on childrens'. This level of organisation aligns with a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas, but the range is limited and repetitive. Words such as 'business', 'product', and 'promote' are used excessively throughout the text. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors, such as 'postive' instead of positive, and awkward word choices like 'much unique qualities' instead of many unique qualities. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from reaching Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('everything become digital', 'every business try'), missing prepositions, and incorrect verb tenses or forms ('they have something unique', 'what affects their advertisement put on'). Punctuation and sentence structures often require effort to parse. Because the frequency of errors is high and causes difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.
