Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why businesses emphasise new products and offering an opinion on whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the ideas remain largely under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the discussion on why businesses advertise novelty mentions attracting the public and making a profit, but it does not delve deeper into consumer psychology or market competition. Examples provided, such as 'one of the brand launched any makup product', are vague and lack specific context. The writer's position on whether it is a positive or negative development is somewhat obscured by weak transitions and underdeveloped supporting arguments. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. Cohesive devices are frequently misused, mechanical, or omitted entirely. For example, sentences often begin abruptly, such as 'Let discuss with the example' and 'Furthermore discuss the positive impact', which disrupts the natural progression of ideas. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion is weak. These issues place the response firmly at Band 4 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The writer relies on simple and imprecise terms, such as 'growing new businesses were shows to public' and 'makup product'. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'intsrest', 'varioius', 'pamplates', and 'throught'. These lexical limitations and frequent spelling errors strain the reader and obscure meaning in several sentences. The range of vocabulary is inadequate for a higher band, reflecting the descriptors for Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, with a very limited range of structures. Simple sentences are frequently malformed, and attempts at complex structures, such as 'As most of the public having a instrest to experiment a new products...', result in severe structural errors. There are constant errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure (e.g., 'businesses nowadays usually emphasise' versus 'growing new businesses were shows'). Punctuation is also erratic, with sentences running together awkwardly. These pervasive, frequent errors significantly impede communication and meet the criteria for a Band 4.
